Forthcoming events and competitions

This is our winter programme. Starting time is the usual 7.30 except where indicated. On the other Mondays we'll be shooting our usual 3 dozen arrows for our individual scores for the DNAA logical league. Our club competitions, starting in January, are just for fun and to give everyone a chance we'll be using handicaps if someone can work them out. There might be medals and there might be a trophy....

December
15th or 22nd (date to be announced) CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY SHOOT. All members MUST wear a silly hat. Anyone not wearing a silly hat will have to do a forfeit chosen by all members. Everyone to bring their favourite party food to share, so we hope that nobody's tastes are too peculiar!
January

19th
Starting time 7.00pm

POSTAL LEAGUE - Portsmouth Round shooting 5 dozen arrows. This month we will be competing against Kirknewton Archers who will be shooting us. Does that mean we save on postage? The top 5 scores from each club go forward. To give us a chance we'll have to give them the old targets with the soft centres 'cos arrows that go right through probably don't count for scoring!
26th CLUB COMPETITION - Vegas Round. That's the one where we have to shoot three arrows at those three little targets - one arrow at each. So if you wear glasses for shooting, make sure they are clean as one speck of dirt could hide those little targets from view.
You need numbered arrows to shoot this one.
February

16th
Starting time 7.00pm

POSTAL LEAGUE - Portsmouth Round shooting 5 dozen arrows. The top 5 scores from each club go forward.
23rd CLUB COMPETITION - Bray 2 round. We'll be shooting two-and-a-half dozen arrows at 60cm target from 25yds, so it will be backs against the wall to fit this one into the hall. And don't forget to adjust your sight (if it will help your shooting) from the usual position for 20 yds. It's so long since we shot a different distance, can anyone remember if they go up or down?
March
30th CLUB COMPETITION - Bray 1 round. It's like last month's round - but different! The good news is that we move nearer to the targets at 20yds; the bad news is that the targets are smaller at 40cm. Someone said that these rounds simulate ancient battle conditions so the first round is from further away and the second round from closer as the enemy advances. But as they advance, the enemy would appear larger, wouldn't they? It must have been Dougal from Father Ted who worked out this one before Ted had explained to him "This one's small, that one's far away!"
April

27th
Starting time 7.00pm

CLUB COMPETITION - Portsmouth round. An early start this month because we've got 5 dozen arrows each to shoot, so it's back to serious business after our little Bray interlude.
